What makes you most happy at work?
Solving technical problems for people in need.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Everybody gets the social mission focus. It's why people some to Benetech. Transparency is also a big deal here. We share the financial situation with the company quarterly, along with the latest plans. Plus the software and content we develop is almost all open source.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Benetech's team is truly diverse. Women make up more than half of the company (it's a software company!), professionals and managers. Roughly half of execs are women. Plus, we have between 10-20% of the team as a people with disabilities, plus a wide range of other diversity.

Communication with employees on procedures
This seems to be aimed at the other Benetech, which is a for-profit, in the Chicago area. Doesn't sound like a California issue.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Retirement benefits are needed like match contributions
Our Benetech (the California nonprofit) has a 401k with a 2% match on the first 4% of deferrals. So, sounds like this is aimed at the other Benetech (for-profit) in Illinois.
