What are your coworkers at U.S. Government like?

It seems to be getting better, recently.
Most of my peers are new and extremely competent. Political leadership is lacking direction and some capabilities to lead. Union employees on the whole are underperforming and uninspired.
No different than any other organization except many of them have served in the military or are in the military. There is a strong sense of duty and mission accomplishment amongst them all. Finally, the organization is probably a little older than in other organizations.
How do you feel about U.S. Government's future?
We'll get through it, but we may not be what we once were.
I'm optimistic about the distant future, not so much for the near term.
How's the vacation policy at U.S. Government?
It depends on the department, assignment, if fed employee, NAF employee or Civilian Contractor.
I haven't had a vacation in years.
How's the work life balance at U.S. Government?
Non existent for management but extremely liberal for union employees
Most people work 40hrs a week. A few seniors or supervisors work a little more but we get all federal holidays off and anywhere between 20-30 days a year off for personal leave plus sick leave
What part of U.S. Government's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
Not sure what’s growing. It’s presently lacking clear direction
The weapons industry seems to be growing fastest. Health and human services seems to be lagging.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at U.S. Government?
Reduce the scope of the Union. Improve the performance management system and remove loopholes in termination process.
I would provide more parity with salaries.
What do people at U.S. Government think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
Are you serious? Our CEO is completely incompetent, ignorant to facts and creates division.
What are the most important soft skills I need to be successful at U.S. Government?
Patience, negotiation and fortitude
What perk or benefit should U.S. Government have?
Competent Human Resource services, IT services and performance management systems. Free TSA Pre-Check, parking at employment site, discounted laptops purchase capability. Legal Protections for management.
What is the best advice you could give someone during their first month at U.S. Government?
Resign quickly and get your old job back. This is the most unprofessional, unproductive, nonsupportive place to work with great pay and benefit package.
How does U.S. Government handle HR issues?
Not well.
What's the internship program like at U.S. Government?
It's a long wait until you get real money.

Underpaid and underutilized.
What's the work from home policy like at U.S. Government?
It's awkward, but doable.

Long hours, not enough sleep.
How innovative is U.S. Government?
Too. We seem to have forgotten the Constitution.

Yes

Boring, I never got to talk to the person who could hire me.

Interminable. You always have to be on your toes.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining U.S. Government?
The POTUS doesn't follow the Constitution.

I haven't been challenged in 28 years.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at U.S. Government?
I don't have much of a social life.

Not as much as it should be.

I feel good. It's an honor to contribute my skills and loyalty to the U.S. Government, Department of Defense.
