If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Apptio?
Great culture. The "start-up employees" just need to be more open to new ideas for the business now that they are publicly traded.
Leave, its getting worse every day. There is just no way Apptio will ever be the company it was when it won the best place to work award in 2012.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at Apptio?
Yes, especially if you are one of the better employees. People will spread rumors and false information, and the majority of the people here, at least around me, are young people who can't make judgement calls for themselves, so you inevitably become isolated. HR doesn't care that these people don't have problem solving skills, either, and they always get a pass.

How's the leadership on the Marketing team at Apptio?
The leadership team are focused on creating a market and retaining customers over the long-run. Every year the team focuses on developing a positive operating environment for employees to grow their careers and to do great work. They may not get everything right, right away, but they listen and make good decisions on what they can do better.
Chris Pick is CMO, and he's a brilliant marketing and business leader for the organization. He shows support for team members to pursue new projects, freedom to make an impact and recognition for work well done.
What's the pay like for Marketing roles at Apptio?
Good, with great upside on APTI's public currency.

How's the morale at Apptio?
It's absolutely despicable after going public, promoting far too many people to director who don't even really work in director positions, and the QA department has gone completely rogue trying to change this company into Microsoft.

It's enterprise software, so it has a similar vibe as other enterprise companies.
Not very good. Very clickish and and back stabbing.
What part of Apptio's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
The enterprise market is fairly new, with a new land and expand motion, so there is a ton of growth. Strategic Accounts are a little slower growth.
How flexible is your work schedule at Apptio?
Completely flexible. I only drive into the office once or twice a week.

What's the vibe like in the Marketing dept at Apptio? How many hours are you working?
We're a tribe that works hard and had fun together. Hours are long (10-12 hours/day) but the work and espirit d'corps are rewarding.
What's the Marketing team like at Apptio?
The marketing team is one of the most creative teams I have ever worked on! They are driven by a mission to bring their customers (IT leaders) "respect and credibility" in the industry. With this purpose, this team has built a movement. They are high performing and lead SaaS companies in advancing the art and science of enterprise B2B marketing.
Does Apptio have any remote positions?
Not for new employees, but once an employees work ethic and value are proven, more remote options become available, such as working from home once or twice a month, maybe more for very senior persons. In my time here, I have only known two people given the privilege of working remotely full time, and both of them were ultimate rock stars, one of which has retired now. Both of them would frequent the office every so often, as well.
