What's the best part of your job at Sdge?
The camaraderie among the workers.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining Sdge?
People think we're crooks.
How's the morale at Sdge?
Very high.
How much diversity is there among employees at Sdge?
Not too much. The field has its limitations.
What's the office layout like at Sdge?
Honeycombed cubicles. Offices for the mucky-mucks.
What unique perks and benefits does Sdge provide?
We sign a contract that restricts us from talking about our benefits and pay. We do get free coffee and donuts.
What's the pay like for Engineering roles at Sdge?
Great pay commensurate with your experience and education.
What's the vibe like in the Engineering dept at Sdge? How many hours are you working?
Good vibe. However, lots of little emergencies. We have a little sign that says, "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine." Management doesn't like this sign much. But we rush in and try and solve all emergencies quickly. I usually put in about 45 -55 hours a week with field surveys.
What's the Engineering team like at Sdge?
Like any other work team. Mostly good people with a few jugheads thrown into the mix. MIT and Ivy league guys usually can't get their heads through the door.
How's the leadership on the Engineering team at Sdge?
Great. Do your job, do it well, and they'll leave you alone. You may never even see the bosses for days on end.
How do I do well in an interview at Sdge?
Remain calm and confident. Don't let them see you sweat or seem desperate. However, don't appear arrogant or cocky either. Yes, you know some things, but you are there to learn also.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at Sdge?
Easy peasy.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at Sdge?
The interviewer asked me, "How long do you think it will take you to replace me in my job?" My answer, "As quickly as I can. If they're having you do interviews you must be at a level that will move up and out of this job in the near future. I'd be proud to fill your shoes one day."
Who did you meet with during your interview? And how long did it take to hear back from Sdge?
I met with the Engineering dept head, who after the interview walked me over to HR and got me hired the same day. If they advertise a job, they need you right now.
What questions do they ask during the interview process at Sdge?
It depends on the interviewer. Basically, they'll ask you about your history and goals for the future. They may throw you some curve balls like, "How do we know that after we spend a fortune training you, you won't go off on your own and be an independent contractor for more money." One good answer would be, "Because I'm looking for stability, a job it can make a career of and build a family around."
How would you compare interviewing at Sdge to other places you've interviewed?
About the same. Go online and bone-up on a few facts about the company: history, size, revenue, things happening in the news, etc. A little knowledge goes a long way.
What should I wear for an interview at Sdge?
It depends on the job you're interviewing for. Of course, office jobs mandate a business suit, even if the actual job is mainly shirt and tie. Field job interviews can be more casual. However, all attire should be clean and in good shape. Remember, a nice sport coat is never over-dressed.
