Switching departments and teams are not uncommon. The managers really want to support individuals' strengths and so as they get to know what resources an individual has to contribute, they are really open to discussing transitions to other teams or departments. As one who has switched multiple teams, I appreciate my managers being open to why they considered my strengths in offering me a new position. If I ever felt like I would not be best suited for a role, I have been open about addressing my concerns or any questions I have. I have also had team members choose to stay in their current positions or go back after a period of time because they felt more successful in their previous position. These decisions were highly supported by their managers. With that said, the company wants for you to be successful and so you need to demonstrate success in your current position before a transition. If you might not yet be qualified for a position, they help coach you for future consideration.
