Q&A With BambooHR Employees

We may not be actual superheroes, but you might say we operate a little like the Justice League or the Avengers. Each department champions its craft—whether it's spinning beautiful designs, coding up a storm, or providing speedy customer service. And by banding together, we're saving the world—one HR professional at a time.

How employees describe working at BambooHR

Overall my experience at BambooHR has been great. I've loved the people that I work with and I feel like BambooHR and the leader teams do care about me and my life outside of work. I think the only point of criticism I have is compensation. It does feel a little on the low side compared to others.

Paid paid vacation, and consistent and reasonable wages

I have insanely intelligent and driven coworkers. They are all so fun to be around

Their transparency and trust in their employees.

BambooHR has been, and still is, a great place to work. There are growing challenges like any company has to navigate, but I feel that BambooHR does a great job at it.

It's a balance of people engaged with their work and our clients as well as team members interacting with each other. You will see pandas every where (that's kind of our thing), random snacks being shared, and perks like a pebbled ice machine. I have never met more friendlier, inclusive individuals.

  • Competitive, humble, and eager to improve.

  • It's your life, wear whatever you want.

  • We are casual here and so showing up to an interview in jeans and a shirt is encouraged. The recruiter will usually mention this before an interview and if you are like me you will still show up in business casual (which is also fine) and realize you didn't need to. You will even see our CEO in a hat, t-shirt, jeans, and flip-flops on most days so we just want you to be comfortable and feel welcomed. No need to impress us with your looks but more importantly is coming showing your best self, how you aline with our values and the position description, and what contributions you can make to help grow this amazing place. Plus we do office tours and so climbing up and downstairs (there are elevators too) sometimes isn't the greatest in heels (unless you want to really rock those heels.

  • I met with two sales managers, the VP of Sales, and the CEO. It was within the next couple days that I heard back and was offered a position.

  • I met with several people, ranging from the hiring manager, to the person who would become my direct supervisor, all the way up to the co-founders of the company. Through every stage of the process, I heard back regularly from the hiring manager, and the final decision was made in just a day or two after my final interview.

  • Open

  • Open, teams sit with each other to foster communication and collaboration. There are a lot of break-out rooms of various sizes in the center of both floors with a few offices (however, even our COO doesn't have an office and sits with his team). Lots of plants to help with air quality. Uses standing desks for most desks and has two break rooms (each with three fridges, lots of cupboard space, and one has a pebbled ice machine- minor detail but very important).

  • Very rare

  • Switching departments and teams are not uncommon. The managers really want to support individuals' strengths and so as they get to know what resources an individual has to contribute, they are really open to discussing transitions to other teams or departments. As one who has switched multiple teams, I appreciate my managers being open to why they considered my strengths in offering me a new position. If I ever felt like I would not be best suited for a role, I have been open about addressing my concerns or any questions I have. I have also had team members choose to stay in their current positions or go back after a period of time because they felt more successful in their previous position. These decisions were highly supported by their managers. With that said, the company wants for you to be successful and so you need to demonstrate success in your current position before a transition. If you might not yet be qualified for a position, they help coach you for future consideration.

  • A few, I think. Mostly they prefer that people be able to easily come to the office if necessary, but it's not 100% mandatory.

  • Yes, however, they are limited to what states you work from (mainly you can only work remotely in Utah). About half of our workforce works remotely.

  • I love the vacation policy. The Paid-Paid benefit means I can do things I wouldn't have dreamed of at other jobs, and I've NEVER had an issue taking off time when I needed or wanted to.

  • You start at 15 vacation days per year (4.61 hours accrued per pay check if hourly or 5 hours if salary). Vacation and sick are combined in one so that you take time off when you need it (and don't have a ton of unused hours). You then get an extra day per year of working at BambooHR (the cap is currently 20 days). You also get your a day off for your birthday and 11 holidays off (including a floating holiday).

  • I can only speak for the sales department but it's not hard to get promoted. There is a career path that has been established and that will differ based on being hired as an SDR or directly into the AE role. Getting promoted from AE to SAE isn't difficult but just requires that you be a top performer. Being promoted from SAE/AE to Sales Management isn't difficult either but is purely dependent on timing and team fit.

  • To be real with you, if your committed to working hard, being honest and humble in training and feedback, that's an awesome start. Also I definitely recommend being able to manage your time well, and being a personable person. Optimistic outlooks and problem solving skills will go a long way! I'm not a manager or anything but that definitely defines a good majority of the team :)
