There's no negotiation for salary, so everyone ends up getting paid the same, independent of their contribution or ability to contribute.
We tend to eliminate anyone who doesn't fit the mold of a few people on the team. There's a presumption that new hires should just be code monkeys with nothing new to contribute.
There needs to be a effort on the part of management to hire people who can collaborate effectively. We have some smart people on our teams, but they also tend to be arrogant and unpleasant to work with.
