Communication skills is the biggest one, and next is knowing you’re store and the facts and details. If you’ve got one of those you’ll do alright but if you’ve got both you’re set and I’ll explain why. The most obvious is customers are more likely to go after something if it’s brought to their attention. If you’re trying to sell something that customers know nothing about, it’s not selling because it’s unknown. On the other hand if you’re offering the information while being friendly and informative (and I don’t recommend this) but even if you have no idea what you’re talking about, they’re going to listen to you and that’s why it’s the biggest skill. So if you can do that AND know what you’re talking about, there’s nothing you can’t sell.
