A person’s satisfaction with their career generally decreases over time, bottoming out around age 51, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably.
Satisfaction and age are inversely related
Workers 18 to 30 had the most positive view of their career progress, though still somewhat dismal: just 50% say they are happy with the course of their career. That number decreases, hitting a low of 41% for 51 to 55-year olds. Workers 56 to 60 are slightly more optimistic, at 48%.

Satisfaction and education
Fifty-three percent of workers with a high school diploma as their highest degree say they are happy with their career progress. That was the highest amount of any education level.
Workers with “some college” were the least happy, at 44%.

Cities with the most satisfied workers
Workers in Boston were most happy about their career progress, at 53%, while workers in Chicago were least happy (40%).
The latest reading is as of Oct. 11 and includes the responses of more than 1,000 workers across the technology industry.
