The Great Resignation is liberating tons of people from jobs they feel weren’t ideal on a daily basis as 2021 careens towards a conclusion (after the oncoming heap of holidays), and among these new “searcher” candidates – who want to make the right decisions about where they build their work nest – are some very fine engineers.

On the Revenue Android team, we have unique opportunities to build high-impact, user-facing features across the entire Tinder Android app.
We recently launched Tinder Platinum as a new premium subscription tier. Not only did this require supporting a new subscription product, but the team also built out all of the user-facing features bundled within the subscription. This was a full-stack effort within Tinder’s Revenue Pod and we collaborated with multiple teams including Product, Design, Backend, Web, and iOS. Our Android developers specifically built out custom animations and views, database and network details, updated billing infrastructure, and overall client architecture to support the Tinder Platinum feature set.
The team is also responsible for in-app payments. Maintaining multiple payment methods and a variety of in-app products (both consumable and subscriptions) requires ongoing infrastructure and architecture work.
With Tinder’s global scale, new feature development on the Android client has an immediate impact on millions of members.

Nextiva is creating a new category of technology that combines communications, customer management, and AI/automation to help companies know their customers better and deliver amazing CX. We call it Connected Communications. We have a genuine need for advanced communications and AI technologies, and we’re looking for engineers who can learn advanced algorithms, languages, libraries, and tools quickly, solve hard problems, and help others come up to speed very fast. Many businesses face the challenge of truly knowing, understanding, and remembering their customers because they’re using disparate technologies where customer context gets lost. At Nextiva, we’re creating solutions to connect conversations and provide critical customer information at every step. This is our challenge.
What kind of engineers work best at your company?
The engineers that work best at Nextiva are motivated to continue learning and developing their skills. We use Java, Go, Python, and Javascript today. Deep knowledge of at least one of these languages is expected, but we’re less interested in language mastery than an engineer’s ability to learn libraries and algorithms and to design and build high-quality software that is simple, well-tested, and easy for others to work with. At Nextiva, we offer great training and working code examples to help engineers continue to develop their skills and advance in their careers. We make extensive use of open-source software and industry-standard CI/CD tooling, so knowledge of current generation tools and OSS frameworks always helps.

We’re firm believers that software teams don’t need to choose between providing a great workplace or pushing hard to build great products; they can do both. At nCino we call that balance “hustling in comfort” and it’s one of the reasons American Banker named us the #1 Best Fintech to Work For. We seek software engineers who aren’t afraid to make mistakes, own them, and work with their teams to fix them; who think holistically about our SDLC and delivery cycle; and who have a growth mindset and are eager to learn and collaborate with their teams. On the skill side, we look for full-stack engineers with a deep understanding of object-oriented programming (Java, C#, Python, Ruby, C++) and experience with client-side JavaScript libraries like Angular, React, Vue.

What challenges do you have to offer engineers?
At Ambassador Labs, our products make hard things simple (the hard things about developing on Kubernetes) and, as we all know, making hard things simple is a lot more challenging than just making things. Because we are building tools for engineers just like ourselves, we do a lot more of the product design than a typical agile shop where you just work on tickets: we are full-stack developers in the largest sense as our “stack” includes shaping and influencing the product and the user experience, not just the tech stack.
What kind of engineers work best at your company?
We have a talented team of engineers who want to work on solutions for other engineers. Because we emphasize open source and building community, we receive continuous user feedback, and being able to quickly absorb and act on that feedback are skills that are important to us. Making speed a habit is one of our core values, so an important part of our operating system is giving our engineers the autonomy to execute on time-boxed bets for our customers.
