Companies That Encourage Employees To Give Back

Today’s workforce increasingly seeks more than just a paycheck—they want to work for organizations that align with their values and provide meaningful opportunities to make a positive impact. Forward-thinking companies are responding by creating comprehensive corporate social responsibility programs that don’t just involve employees, but truly empower them to contribute to causes they care about.

The most successful programs go beyond traditional corporate giving by offering paid volunteer time, matching donation programs, employee-led initiatives, and flexible platforms that allow workers to support the causes that matter most to them. These initiatives create a win-win scenario: employees find greater purpose and fulfillment in their work, while companies build stronger communities and more engaged workforces.

How does your company involve employees in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and what impact have these efforts had?

Making the world a better place starts locally – that’s a foundational principle here at LHC Group. It has been since our start as a single agency in a rural American community. Our agency teams around the nation are more than just a local business; they are friends and neighbors who work to actively promote enhanced opportunities, well-being, and a better future for each diverse community we are privileged to serve. Our company culture reflects a service mentality that encourages involvement at the local level. We refuse to settle for the status quo – we have so much more to offer.

What opportunities do you provide for employees to contribute to causes they care about through their work?

LHC Group is dedicated to providing our team members around the nation with the resources they need to play an active role in improving their community. With flexible scheduling options and support for work-life balance, employees are able to take advantage of volunteer opportunities and other ways to give back. And through initiatives like The Purpose Fund and The Hospice Promise Foundation, we provide our employees with further opportunities to help their colleagues and those around them who may be going through difficult times. Today, many professionals want a career that supports their desire to spend a portion of their lives in service to making things better. We value these types of employees at our organization – those who want to make a difference in their community and, by extension, help change the world.

How does your company involve employees in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and what impact have these efforts had?

At Invitation Homes, we believe giving back and providing Genuine CARE™ to the communities we serve is a key part of who we are. We regularly engage associates in service opportunities such as volunteer events, donation drives, and community improvement projects. Associates across our markets have supported local schools, disaster relief efforts, housing-related causes, and neighborhood revitalization.

Our Green Spaces initiative invites employees to be part of an internal grantmaking competition that funds and supports the creation and enhancement of outdoor community spaces across our markets. Each year, we select one or two nonprofits to receive up to $50,000 per year for 1-3 years, depending on the scope of the project. These projects may include upgrading playgrounds, creating community gardens, refurbishing sports courts, or adding walking trails.

Invitation Homes is partnered with the American Red Cross on the Sound the Alarm campaign where employees can help install free smoke alarms in homes and educate residents on fire safety. As a member of the Red Cross’ National Disaster Responder program, Invitation Homes also provides financial support for the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts nationwide – helping communities recover when they need it most.

Our Invitation to SkillUp Initiative is a program designed to help close the skilled trades gap by raising awareness and providing tangible support to students pursuing careers in skilled trades fields. Currently, we are partnered with 10 trade schools across our markets. Each agreement includes mentorship programs, shadowing opportunities, and events, along with an annual $10,000 contribution for scholarships dedicated to need-based and minority students, ensuring greater access to skilled trades education.

These initiatives not only strengthen the communities where we live and work but also foster a sense of pride, teamwork, and purpose among employees.

What opportunities do you provide for employees to contribute to causes they care about through their work?

We offer associates multiple avenues to give back in ways that matter to them. Through our partnership with Benevity, employees can easily donate to causes of their choice and have their donations matched through our Matching Gift program.

Associates also receive 20 hours of paid volunteer time off each year, allowing them to dedicate time to organizations they are passionate about.

How does your company involve employees in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and what impact have these efforts had?

At LexisNexis Legal & Professional, giving back is at the heart of how we live our mission to advance the rule of law and build stronger communities; and it starts at the top with our parent company, RELX.

Through RELX Cares, our global program, every employee is offered two paid days off each year to volunteer with causes that matter to them— whether mentoring disadvantaged youth, supporting local non-profits, or contributing to projects that strengthen access to justice. In the U.S., colleagues receive an additional two days dedicated to pro bono work.

Every September, Cares Month and Global Cares Day shine a spotlight on our community efforts and unite colleagues across 150+ countries in service, fundraising, and pro bono projects that combine community passion with professional expertise. A network of more than 245 Cares Champion volunteers energizes these efforts worldwide, while our Recognising Those Who Care Awards celebrate outstanding individual and team contributions globally. In 2024, winners were awarded a group trip to Ghana to volunteer with Book Aid International, and in 2025, winners will visit the Philippines to participate in RELX-supported charity projects.

Last year, 37% of RELX employees took part in volunteering—well above industry averages. Beyond volunteerism, our Matched Giving program, which doubles employee donations up to US$1,000 annually, further amplifies personal contributions. Collectively, across RELX, $29 million was contributed to global charities in cash, time and in-kind products and services in 2024. Together, we create measurable impact while fostering teamwork and pride in our mission.

By bringing the same spirit of innovation we apply to our business into our community efforts, we create lasting impact—and a workplace where employees feel proud to see their contributions driving meaningful change.

What opportunities do you provide for employees to contribute to causes they care about through their work?

We know that giving back looks different for everyone, which is why our Cares program gives employees the flexibility to support causes that resonate with them.

Whether it’s mentoring students, restoring green spaces, helping at an animal shelter, or serving at a food bank, colleagues can use their paid volunteer days to give back in ways that feel meaningful to them. For those passionate about justice, the Rule of Law Project Board connects employees worldwide with opportunities to apply their skills, and sometimes even new technologies, to initiatives that expand access to justice. Others choose to join team-led service projects or amplify their impact through our Matched Giving program, which doubles personal donations up to US$1,000 annually.

These opportunities reflect the same innovative spirit we bring to our work: empowering every employee at every level to contribute in their own way, while also fostering pride in being part of a company that invests in shaping a more just world.

In the first half of the year alone, we have donated a car built in a collaborative effort by our female reconditioning center technicians as well as many other females across the organization, collected 1,000 backpacks in our annual backpack drive, donated more than 500 hours of time total, and hosted over ten virtual and on-site give-back events. Through our We Stand Together program, employees can also engage in virtual and on-site volunteering during monthly and cultural observances, giving back to the communities they are a part of.

We understand that when our team members are empowered to take action, they make a meaningful difference–whether it’s our female reconditioning center techs supporting women-focused nonprofits or our analytics and data science team members mentoring local high schoolers in our annual AI bootcamp in partnership with the Mark Cuban Foundation. Together, these programs offer a diverse range of opportunities for employees to create real, lasting impact.

How does your company involve employees in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and what impact have these efforts had?

At Calix, giving back is a part of who we are, and it reflects in our initiatives. In 2025, we launched our first-ever giving platform in partnership with Benevity, making it easier than ever for employees to support causes they care about. To kick off the program, Calix seeded employees with funds to donate to charities of their choice, reinforcing our belief that giving should reflect what matters most to our people. On Giving Tuesday and throughout the year, we celebrate the spirit of generosity and community.

But our commitment goes beyond platforms and campaigns. For the past four years, we’ve embedded a community impact lens into everything we do. From a social impact booth at our annual ConneXions conference, to affinity group events, team meetups and offsites. Whether we’re gathering virtually or in person, we intentionally create space to give back. These efforts have helped foster a culture where social impact is not only encouraged but empowered, and where employees are enabled to lead with purpose.

What opportunities do you provide for employees to contribute to causes they care about through their work?

Calix offers a variety of meaningful, flexible ways for employees to support the causes that matter most to them. Through Benevity, we run curated campaigns and challenges that make giving and volunteering simple and impactful. These initiatives are aligned with our four community impact pillars: Connectivity, STEM, Equitable Opportunities, and Aid & Response, which ensures our collective efforts drive change where it’s needed most.

In addition, the Calix Leadership Cares budget allows employees to request corporate donations that match their personal contributions to a charity of their choice. This program amplifies individual impact and reflects our belief that leadership includes giving back. Employees have the freedom to choose the causes they’re passionate about, and Calix stands behind them, matching their generosity with our own.

Together, these programs reflect a deeper truth: at Calix, we don’t just support social responsibility, we live it.
