Companies With Sustainability Initiatives and Green Practices

In an era where environmental consciousness shapes consumer preferences and regulatory frameworks, companies are increasingly integrating sustainability into their core business strategies. This special feature highlights organizations that have made significant commitments to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

What specific sustainability goals has your company set, and how are you measuring progress towards these objectives?

RX is proud to be a founding member of the Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) pledge, launched by the events industry at COP 26. This initiative addresses the challenge of global warming by committing to reach net zero by 2050, and to halve emissions by 2030. Reflecting our dedication to sustainability, we have set our own ambitious target to achieve net zero by 2040, aligning closely with the goals of our parent company, RELX, who is a signatory of the Climate Pledge.

RELX tracks our Scope 1, 2, and some Scope 3 emissions via the RELX CO² Hub, reporting the results annually in the RELX Corporate Responsibility Report. At RX our primary focus is on measuring and reducing our wider Scope 3 emissions from our events. This includes emissions from venue energy, production, waste, logistics, and travel.

Our roadmap sets out the milestones we are putting in place, including short-, medium-, and long-term goals to ensure we reduce our emissions to net zero no later than 2040. Working with our partners, venues and stakeholders, we are taking a united approach to collect and track our energy and waste data to reach our net zero goals.

In what ways does your company involve employees in its sustainability efforts, and how does this affect employee engagement and retention?

To drive our sustainability strategy, we have established a Global Sustainability Council, bringing together employee representatives from each of our business hubs. The council meets monthly to share best practices and ensure we reach our milestones by connecting our global expertise with local initiatives. Additionally, our show teams actively support sustainability through onsite initiatives at our events. These efforts not only aim to reduce the environmental impact of our events but also promote sustainability within the industries we serve through our show content, conference topics, and event features.

To further engage our colleagues, RELX held a Climate Race, encouraging employees to learn more about their own carbon footprints. We also have Green Teams and sustainability working groups active across the business, driving local initiatives and fostering collaboration. Some of our RXers have also used their volunteer days to support litter picks in local communities and tree planting efforts.

At RX, we are proud to be at the forefront of driving sustainable change in the events industry. This commitment attracts employees who seek purpose-driven work and provides opportunities for meaningful involvement in sustainability initiatives, regardless of their role. This enhances job satisfaction, motivates our teams, and fosters a sense of pride and belonging. When our values align with our employees’ ethical and sustainability ideals, it strengthens retention and creates a workplace culture that thrives on shared purpose.

What specific sustainability goals has your company set, and how are you measuring progress towards these objectives?

Vista has set specific sustainability goals in 3 key areas that are fundamental to our company:

1. Carbon reduction: We have committed to be Net Zero by 2040, which includes our entire supply chain (scores 1,2 and 3).

2. Responsible Forestry: 100% of the paper we use to produce our products must be either FSC or PEFC certified.

3. Plastic and packaging: Eliminating problematic plastics (PVC and polystyrene) in packing and products, aiming to increase the recyclability of our packaging and products, and meeting minimum post-consumer waste requirements.

We measure our targets internally on a quarterly basis and these are published in an annual ESG Report by Cimpress (our parent company).

In what ways does your company involve employees in its sustainability efforts, and how does this affect employee engagement and retention?

We have a dedicated central Sustainability team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. In addition, the Sustainability projects derived from our goals are cross-functional, involving team members from Procurement, Product Assortment, Marketing, Supply Chain and Operations, each one providing valuable contributions to ensure that our goals are reached.

We engage Vista and Cimpress team members through our employee resource groups (ERGs), educational opportunities, and collaboration with our dedicated Sustainability team. We foster a culture of continuously learning and improving, and utilize various methods to encourage and gather team member feedback. Whilst we don’t directly measure the relationship between sustainability efforts and retention, creating a responsible and inclusive culture is important for team member satisfaction, aiding in retention. These initiatives aim to foster a shared sense of purpose and contribute to an inclusive and sustainable future.

What specific sustainability goals has your company set, and how are you measuring progress towards these objectives?

At Everlight Solar, our sustainability goals are clear: lead by example, reduce our environmental footprint, and empower others to do the same. We’ve set our sights on tangible, measurable objectives that guide our operations and community involvement.

We’ve also set goals to increase our involvement in environmental initiatives, such as community cleanup efforts and other local sustainability events. By tracking participation and the number of events held across our locations, we can gauge our growing impact in the communities we serve.

Of course, at the core of everything we do is our mission to accelerate the adoption of solar energy. We measure success through the number of systems installed, total solar output, and the amount of carbon offset by the clean energy our customers produce. These goals guide our efforts, hold us accountable, and help us build a brighter, more sustainable future.

In what ways does your company involve employees in its sustainability efforts, and how does this affect employee engagement and retention?

At Everlight Solar, sustainability isn’t just part of our product—it’s part of our culture. We actively involve our staff members in hands-on environmental efforts, such as park cleanups and tree-planting events that take place multiple times throughout the year. These activities give our team a chance to make a tangible impact in their local communities and foster a strong sense of teamwork and purpose.

In addition to community-focused initiatives, our commitment to sustainability is built into our daily operations. We utilize a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) to travel to job sites and have EV chargers installed at all of our warehouses. This infrastructure makes it easy for our staff to reduce their carbon footprint while supporting our mission to create a cleaner, greener future.

By embedding sustainability into our culture and operations, we create an environment where employees feel aligned with our mission. This sense of shared purpose contributes to higher engagement, job satisfaction, and long-term retention.
