It’s PepsiCo vs. The Coca-Cola Company for today’s Culture Showdown. That’s right, one of the oldest mainstream company rivalries in American culture will be living out their decades-old battle again today using Comparably’s employee data. So what is it really like working for Coca-Cola? How is the company culture at Pepsi? Read on for some inside insights.

OVERALL CULTURE

A Pepsi employee praises that staff are “creative, collaborative, and challenge each other respectfully.” [i]Another agrees that employees have each other’s back but that the company needs “to get our pride back and resurrect the recognition program.”

At Coca-Cola, workers regularly note the appeal of “working for a world-wide well-known company” and add that “we have fun, we win, and we work together. When we lose, we lose as a team and regroup.” On the downside, another employee says workers “need accountability and team building events to keep morale positive.”

Female workers rank the culture of both companies slightly higher, with Pepsi at 79 and Coke at 73.

One Pepsi exec writes, “Love what I do but would like to be rewarded with stock compensation again.” An employee adds that “management needs to improve the interactions with the drivers.” A third says “leaders are approachable.”

Women rank Ramon Laguarta nearly ten points higher than men do when we look at replies by gender.

A Coke employee says they “never see or talk to any of our leadership team.” Another says the leadership team “does not provide opportunities for advancement.”

COMPENSATION

A Pepsi employee writes that they “annual salary is competitive and fair” but that any “bonus is not a regular occurrence.”

Over at Coke, a worker writes that the “pay is good.” Another agrees about the day rate but adds, “I think for the work that is done we should still get paid more as the work is very physical and exhausting.”

Women rate compensation at both companies much higher (82 for Pepsi and 76 for Coke.)

PERKS AND BENEFITS

“The company has excellent insurance,” says one employee of Pepsi. Another mentions that they love “the adoption assistance program.” One more says that the “benefits are too expensive compared to competitors.”

One Coke employee says he only has their benefits because of his union. Another writes happily of their “401k and quarterly incentives and (I get) 5 weeks’ vacation.”

A Pepsi employee says they could use “more diversity on the team” and that the company needs to “be more inclusive.”

Coke workers say they see “no discrimination” and call the company “a diverse environment with all races.”
