Survey: More Than One-Third Get No Face Time With Their CEO

There’s no guarantee or even any expectation of face time with a company’s CEO for most rank-and-file employees, especially when it comes to large businesses. Such encounters are usually based on necessity or chance, and often a CEO works on a different floor or in a different building or even a different city than most of their workers. Getting a chance to speak with the CEO of your company is a great way to make an employee feel valued and seen, but it turns out – as one would expect – that most workers don’t ever get to interact with the Big Boss.

The information comes courtesy of the latest reading of an ongoing study by Comparably. Over 1000 employees responded to the query.

A full 35% of employees say they never have any opportunity to work alongside or speak to their company’s CEO. That said, the second most frequent answer was “daily,” covering those employees who have call to interact with their CEO every day. The least popular answer, at 14%, was “monthly.”

CEO (overall)

Men and women responded in almost identical fashion to the CEO question.35% of men say they never interact with their CEO, compared to 34% of their female counterparts.

CEO (gender)

Caucasians report less face time with the boss than either Hispanic/Latinos or African-Americans. 36% of Caucasians reported “never” dealing with the CEO, compared to 30% of the Hispanic/Latinos and 29% of the African-Americans.

Workers in certain department definitely have more access to the CEO than others. Employees in the Legal (31%), Marketing (25%) and (naturally) the Executive (53%) departments all report getting daily time with their CEO. And workers in Design said they more often see their CEO on a weekly rather than a daily basis at a rate of 23%.
