How Workhuman’s Passion for DE&I Drives its Mission and Platform

What are some of the products/services you provide that assist with DE&I issues?

Workhuman helps companies and their teams to celebrate their differences. Our platform is based on three principles: thank, talk and celebrate. Our Social Recognition platform is built to enable team members to express gratitude and be inclusive of everyone in the workplace regardless of their rank, location, race, or gender. The recognition moments are reinforced by other employees adding their appreciation of the person, which doubles down on the effect. Employee recognition bridges the gap between diversity and inclusion by creating positive, authentic moments that make every person feel seen, celebrated, and appreciated for who they are and what they do. 

Workhuman research estimates that 20-30% of written communications in the workplace contain implicit bias, even in the most positive settings. Our Inclusion Advisor is an innovative new coaching tool that helps to amplify the power of social recognition and assist organizations with DE&I issues. Powered by AI, it is coupled with the world’s first database that catalogues bias used in everyday workplace communications. The product works by finding subtleties in words that may be perceived as bias, and users are given a chance to course-correct the language they use. For example, Inclusion Advisor identifies that the words “role model for other women” may suggest that someone is only able to impact one gender and recommends using gender-neutral terms such as “a great model for everyone.”

This type of micro-coaching from Inclusion Advisor furthers the value of an employee recognition program, reinforces a business’s DE&I training, and is a low investment, high impact way to create a more inclusive culture.

In addition, Workhuman’s Community Celebrations and Life Events products within the Workhuman Cloud bring people together from across an organization to celebrate shared interests, important events, and milestones. Recent Gallup research has proven that when an employer recognized life events and work milestones, employees are 3X as likely to strongly agree they feel connected to company culture, 3X as likely to strongly agree their organization cares about their wellbeing. This is why we lean into celebrating the Service Milestones and Life Events. Recognizing that celebrating life events can improve employees’ mental health and create a more inclusive culture, Life Events allows employees to celebrate events that are important to them and that occur every day across our human’s live– whether it’s a new home, birth of a new baby, adopting a pet or running their first 5K. Community Celebrations, meanwhile, puts a spotlight on joint activities such as CSR initiatives, volunteer projects and events such as Pride. Fostering this culture of shared celebration not only deepens social connections, but gives employees a sense of belonging, and empowers them to bring their whole selves to work.
