John Krafcik — Self-Driving Car Chief Executive at Alphabet Inc

Mr. John Krafcik has been Self-Driving Car Chief Executive at Alphabet Inc. (alternate name Google Inc). since September 30, 2015. Mr. Krafcik served as the President of TrueCar, Inc. from April 2014 to September 15, 2015 and also served as its Principal Operating Officer until September 15, 2015. Mr. Krafcik served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Hyundai Motor America, Inc. until December 31, 2013. He served as an Acting Chief Executive Officer and Acting President of Hyundai Motor America, Inc. since November 2008 and was responsible for implementation of strategic direction and management of operations. He served as Vice President of Strategic Planning & Product Planning at Hyundai Motor America, Inc. from April 2004 to November 2008. He joined Hyundai from Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 14 years and held positions as Chief Engineer of Truck Chassis Engineering and Chief Engineer of Large and Premium Utility Vehicles. Before joining Ford Motor Company, Mr. Krafcik was the first American Engineer hired by the GM and Toyota joint-venture partnership NUMMI and later became an industry expert on lean production while at MIT. He formed his own management consulting business and was a major contributor to The Machine That Changed the World. While at Ford, Mr. Krafcik held several key product development and planning positions on SUVs, trucks and commercial vehicles. From 1998 to 2002, he served as Chief Engineer for Large and Premium Vehicles, which included the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. He has experience in automobile manufacturing. He was in charge of Ford's light truck chassis systems and helped launch the Ford F-150 pickup truck. He has been a Director of TrueCar, Inc. since February 2014. Mr. Krafcik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Science degree in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
