Mr. Matias Duarte has been Vice President of Material Design at Google since January 2015. He served as Vice President of Material Design at Alphabet Inc since January 2015. Mr. Duarte served as Senior Director of Android User Experience at Google Inc. Mr. Duarte served as the Vice President of Experience Design of HELIO LLC (formerly, SK-Earthlink, LLC) since October 2005. He served as User Experience Director of Android Inc., an affiliate of Google Inc. since May 2010. Prior to joining SK-EarthLink, Mr. Duarte served as Director of Design at Danger Inc. Prior to working at Danger, Mr. Duarte spent six years working in the console game industry. During this time, he served with and for developers MagicArts, and HyperImage, publishers Sony Computer Entertainment America, (989 Studios), Take 2 Interactive, Atari, and Rocket Science, and CGI production tool developers SGI and Alias|Wavefront. Mr. Duarte contributed to the interaction design, creative direction, and content of games for Sony's PlayStation, Sega's Saturn and Atari's Jaguar game consoles. He served as Vice President of Human Interface and User Experience at Palm. Mr. Duarte is recognized for his leadership in the industrial design of the hiptop by WIRED magazine's annual Rave Awards. He was honored to be nominated for the prestigious Cooper Hewitt, National Design Awards. He was also affiliated with the Golden Key Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi. Mr. Duarte graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Computer Science and a specialization in Fine Art from the University of Maryland, College Park from 1992 to 1996.
