Executive Bio

Mr. Michael T. Bakas has been Senior Vice President of Renewable Energy at Ameresco, Inc. since March 2010 and served as its Vice President and Vice President of Renewable Energy. Mr. Bakas manages the Renewable Energy Group, which is primarily responsible for the development and operation of energy generation assets with a focus on the renewable energy market, as well as supporting clients through other Ameresco offerings. He has been instrumental in fostering and supporting legislation that promotes the use of renewable resources. In addition, he is involved in corporate strategic planning, contract development and negotiations and is instrumental in Ameresco's nationwide, corporate business growth. Prior to Ameresco, Mr. Bakas held several strategic management positions at Noresco including Director of Energy Services. He was responsible for the development of a service group dedicated to the retail wheeling of power and natural gas and the successful development of energy service projects in select regional markets. Prior to Noresco, Mr. Bakas was a Team Leader for Boston Edison Company supporting the utility's effort to enter into the competitive marketplace created through deregulation. From 1991 to 1996, he worked for Johnson Controls, Inc., starting as a Project Engineer and ultimately being promoted to Building Services Engineer. He sits on the Board of Directors of the AHEPA Educational & Charitable Corporation. In 1991, Mr. Bakas received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and in 1995 he received his MBA from Boston College.
