Executive Bio

Mr. Robert Barton has been an Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of American Assets Trust, Inc. since January 2011 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer and Treasurer. Mr. Barton has more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate, accounting, tax, mergers and acquisitions and structured finance. He served as Treasurer and Secretary of American Assets, Inc. He was responsible for the direct oversight of the financial affairs of American Assets Trust, Inc. From 2002 to July 16, 2010 , Mr. Barton served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of American Assets Investment Management, LLC. From 1998 until the formation of American Assets Trust, Inc., he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of American Assets. From 1996 to 1998, he served as an Executive Director of real estate and finance for Fluor Daniel. From 1986 to 1996, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of RCI Asset Management Group. Prior to RCI, Mr. Barton served as a Senior Audit Manager at Kenneth Leventhal & Company, where he served private and publicly traded companies, including commercial and residential real estate developers. He began his professional career in 1980 with Arthur Young & Co. as an Auditor. Before that, he served as Chief Financial Officer at a privately held real estate developer in Los Angeles for 10 years. Mr. Barton started his career as a CPA with Ernst & Young specializing in mergers and acquisitions for the real estate and financial services industries. Mr. Barton is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California State Society of CPA's, an active member of the Urban Land Institute as well as a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in accounting from California State University, Pomona. Mr. Barton is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in California.
