Executive Bio
Ms. Karen Wilson Thissen has been Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Ameriprise Financial, Inc. since January 2017. Ms. Thissen is responsible for direction and oversight of Ameriprise's legal and compliance functions, consisting of almost 400 professionals who manage all legal and regulatory risks for Ameriprise. Within Ameriprise, she is the Executive sponsor for its annual giving campaign and the executive sponsor for its LGBT employee network. She has more than 20 years of legal experience within the financial services industry. Prior to joining Ameriprise in 2005, she worked as a Trial Lawyer and a Partner at Faegre & Benson in Minneapolis, where she represented broker-dealer, Asset Manager and Insurance Clients on a variety of litigation and regulatory matters. A frequent speaker on issues of leadership and an active community leader, Ms. Thissen has served on a number of nonprofit boards in the Minneapolis community. Ms. Thissen is a graduate of Georgetown University and the University of Chicago Law School.
