Dr. Robert P. Akins, also known as Bob, has been the Chief Technology Strategist and Senior Vice President of Cymer Technologies Division at Cymer Technologies Division at ASML Holding NV since May 31, 2013. Dr. Akins founded Cymer Inc. and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 1986 to May 30, 2013. Dr. Akins served as President of Cymer Inc. from 1986 to May 2000. He served as the Chairman of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International from July 2008 to July 15, 2009. He has been a Director of Cymer Inc. since 1986. He serves as a Director of Extraction Systems Inc. He served as a Director of KLA-Tencor Corp. from May 2008 to May 28, 2013. He served as a Director Semiconductor Equipment and Material International until July 15, 2009. Dr. Akins received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for San Diego County in 1997 and with fellow Cymer co-founder Rick Sandstrom, received the outstanding alumnus award from the University of California, San Diego. He also received the prestigious SEMI Award for North America, the highest honor conferred by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, in 1996 for contributions to the field of deep ultraviolet or DUV lithography. Dr. Akins received a B.S. in Physics, a B.A. in Literature and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of California, San Diego.
