Alex Makler — Senior Vice President of West Region at Calpine Corporation

Mr. Alex Makler has been Senior Vice President of West Region at Calpine Corp. since May 21, 2014. In this role, Mr. Makler leads origination, development and strategy for the West Region, including working closely with Government and Regulatory Affairs team on market reform and other initiatives. Previously, Mr. Makler served as Calpine's Vice President of Strategic Origination and Development for West Region from January 2009 to May 2014 and as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel in the company's legal department, where he began working in 1999. While in the legal group, Mr. Makler served as Calpine's lead attorney for California energy crisis matters. He has a background in commercial transactions, project financing, federal and state regulatory activities, legislative issues, mergers and acquisitions, and all aspects of electric generation development. Prior to Calpine, Mr. Makler practiced commercial law with major law firms in New York, Houston and San Francisco. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
