Mr. J. Larry Nichols has been the Chairman Emeritus of Devon Energy Corporation since June 13, 2016. Mr. Nichols served as the President of Devon Energy Production Company LP. Mr. Nichols served as the President of Sonic Corp. He co-founded Devon Energy Corporation in 1971 and served as its Chairman from 2000 to June 2010, President from 1976 to 2003 and Chief Executive Officer from 1980 to 2010. He served as law clerk to Mr. Chief Justice Earl Warren and Mr. Justice Tom Clark of the USA Supreme Court. He served as the Executive Chairman of Devon Energy Corporation since June 2010 until June 8, 2016 and its Director since 1971 until June 8, 2016. He served as the Chairman of the Board at American Petroleum Institute Inc. from January 2008 to December 2010. He has been a Director of Sonic Corp. since January 31, 2007 and its Lead Independent Director since May 24, 2016. He serves on the Board of Governors of the American Stock Exchange. He served as a Director of American Petroleum Institute Inc. He served as an Independent Director of Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLC (Baker Hughes Incorporated) from 2001 to October 2, 2017 and its Lead Director since April 30, 2013. He served as a Director of Baker Hughes, a GE company until October 02, 2017. He served as a Director of BOK Financial Corporation since 1997. He served as a Director of Smedvig ASA since 1996. He served as Director of CMI Terex Corporation. He serves as a Director of the Domestic Petroleum Council, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Natural Gas Supply Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico, the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and the National Petroleum Council. He serves as a Director of several trade associations that are relevant to the conduct of Devon's business. Mr. Nichols graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor's degree in Geology and he completed his Juris Doctorate at the University of Michigan in 1967.
