Executive Bio

Dr. Zachary Karabell, Ph.D. served as the Head of Global Strategy at Envestnet, Inc., since November 2013. Dr. Karabell helps to shape and communicate Envestnet's investment perspective and deep research capabilities to clients and the media alike and advise the Investment Committee of Envestnet. Dr. Karabell serves as Senior Advisor of BSR. He analyzes economic, political and social trends, working with BSR's research team to monitor current economic conditions and to identify new investment opportunities. He has an extensive career in financial services. He served as an Executive Vice President, Chief Economist and Head of Marketing at Fred Alger Management, Inc. At Alger, he led the creation, launch and marketing of several funds as well as corporate strategy for strategic acquisitions. Dr. Karabell served as Senior Vice President, Senior Economic Analyst and Co-Portfolio Manager at Fred Alger Management, Inc. He served as President of broker-dealer Fred Alger & Co. and Executive Vice President of Alger's Spectra Funds. He served as Senior Vice President, Senior Economic Analyst, and Portfolio Manager of The Alger China-U.S. Growth Fund. He served as the Chief Economist of Alger fund complex. Dr. Karabell has widely written on American culture. He has written 11 books on economics, investing, history and international relations. His two most recent books include A Visionary Nation: Four Centuries of American Dreams and What Lies Ahead, which discusses the American economy of the 1990s and Parting the Desert - The Creation of the Suez Canal where he describes an extraordinary meeting between East and West. In 2003, The World Economic Forum designated him a Global Leader For Tomorrow. Dr. Karabell is a regular commentator on national news programs such as CNBC & MSNBC, and contributor to such publications as Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Foreign Affairs. He serves as a Director of New America Foundation. Dr. Karabell earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He has taught at several leading universities, including Harvard and Dartmouth College.
