William H. Powell — Chairman of the Board at Granite Construction

Mr. William H. Powell, also known as Bill, has been the Chairman of Granite Construction Incorporated since September 2009. Mr. Powell serves as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of State Theatre Performing Arts Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has been an Independent Director at Polyone Corporation since October 2008, Granite Construction Incorporated since July 22, 2004 and FMC Corporation since June 1, 2011. He has more than 32 years of experience in the specialty chemicals industry. He served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of National Starch and Chemical Company from 1999 to 2006. He was responsible for Group Safety, Health and the Environment. He served as a Divisional Vice President of Manufacturing for Adhesives and Resins since 1981. He served as a Corporate Vice President of the Resins and Specialty Chemical Division since 1984, Corporate Vice President of International since 1986, Group Vice President of Industrial Starch and Food Products Division since 1989 and Executive Vice President since 1997. He served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of for Adhesives and Resins since 1999. He joined Imperial Chemical Industries Limited in 1997 following the acquisition of the Specialty Chemicals business from Unilever, where he held a number of senior positions. He joined National Starch and Chemical in 1976 and has extensive experience in production, planning and general management. When National Starch was a subsidiary of ICI PLC, he was an executive vice president and on the board of directors for ICI. Prior to joining National Starch, he was with Novamont Corporation and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., and served as an officer in the United States Air Force. He served as a Director of Zeneca, Inc. He served as a Director of National Starch and Chemical Company. He served as a Director of Arch Chemicals, Inc., from August 2007 to October 20, 2011 and Imperial Chemical Industries Limited from February 2, 2000 to April 2006. He served as the Chairman of the Corn Refiners Association and Honorary Director. He serves as a Director of American Chemistry Council. He serves as a Member of the Board of Overseers at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Trustee of the State Theater of New Jersey. He is a Member of the Institute of Food Technologists and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Powell received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1968 from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Dakota.
