Dr. David F. Welch, also known as Dave, Ph.D., Co-founded Infinera Corporation in 2001 and has been its Chief Strategy & Technology Officer since November 13, 2017 and served as its President since June 19, 2013 until November 13, 2017. Dr. Welch served as the Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at Infinera Corporation from January 2007 to June 19, 2013 and served as its Executive Vice President from January 2004 to June 19, 2013. Mr. Welch is also an Investment Partner with NewSchools Venture Fund. Previously, he served as the Chief Strategy Officer of Infinera Inc., from May 2004 to January 2007. Dr. Welch has a high level of expertise and experience in research and marketing optical technology for fiber optic communications. He is a co-owner at LRFA, LLC. He served as the Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development at SDL and JDS Uniphase, where he was responsible for overall technology direction and merger and acquisition strategies that culminated in the $41 billion acquisition of SDL by JDS Uniphase. After the merger, Dr. Welch served as a Senior Vice President at JDS Uniphase, responsible for technology direction, integration and business development activities for the amplification and transmission portions of the business. He had joined SDL as a Research Scientist in 1985, before taking the roles of Vice President of Research and Development, Vice President of SDL's Systems Business Group and Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development. Dr. Welch is an Industry Advisor of Diamondhead Ventures. Mr. Welch serves as the Director at Primarion, Inc. He has been an Independent Director of AntriaBio, Inc. since July 24, 2015. He has been a Director of Infinera Corporation since October 22, 2010. He served as a Director of Apogee Photonics, Inc. He has published over 250 articles and is an Author of over 50 patents in the area of optics. Dr. Welch has been awarded the 1992 Adolph Lomb Award from OSA, the 1998 Engineering Achievement Award from LEOS and the 1999 Fraunhoffer Award. His contributions have been acknowledged in over 17 Products of the Year awards. Dr. Welch is a fellow of the OSA and a Senior Member of the I.E.E.E. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware.
