Gary Wortel — President & Publisher - Sacramento Bee for New West Region at McClatchy Company

Mr. Gary Wortel has been the President and Publisher of the Sacramento Bee for New West Region at The McClatchy Company since April 3, 2017. Mr. Wortel oversee regional operations at McClatchy's nine other papers in California, Washington state and Idaho. He served as the President and Publisher of Star-Telegram, Inc. (formerly Fort Worth Star Telegram) from December 2007 to June 2017. He served as Publisher of the Fort Worthstar-Telegram at The McClatchy Company from March 2017 to April 3, 2017. He served as President of The Sun Publishing Company, Inc. He also served as Publisher of The Sun News from 2005 to December 2007. He Joined Myrtle Beach from the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Minnesota, where he served as the Vice President of Advertising and Marketing. Prior to that, he served at The Tennessean in Nashville, first as Display Advertising Manager and then Advertising Director from 1993 to 2001. From 1978 to 1993, he served for the San Jose Mercury News, holding a variety of Marketing and Sales Executive Positions. Mr. Wortel is a graduate of San Jose State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in public relations.
