Thomas Grimes Jr. — Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President at Mid-America Apartment Communities

Mr. Thomas L. Grimes, Jr., also known as Tom, has been the Chief Operating Officer of Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. since December 2011 and serves as its Executive Vice President. Mr. Grimes oversees the Mid-America Apartment Communities asset management and human resources functions and the company's portfolio of approximately 85,000 units located in 14 states across the Sunbelt region of the United States. He joined Mid-America Apartment Communities in 1994 and served as Director of Property Management Operations since 2008. He served as Director of Property Management of Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. from 2004 to March 2008. Mr. Grimes served as an Area Manager and Regional Vice President for Mid-America's Florida operations. He also served at MAA as an Operations Director over the Central and North Regions and also served as its Director of Business Development, where he worked for joint venture partners and managed new development efforts and directed the ancillary income business. He is The Secretary for the Fogelman School of Business Alumni Association at the University of Memphis. He is an active leader in the apartment industry and Memphis community. He also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. Mr. Grimes serves as a Member of The Urban Land Institute and Soulsville Foundation. He serves as a Director of The Leadership Academy of Memphis and Metro YMCA. He served on the Board of Innova Memphis, Inc. In 2006, Mr. Grimes was named one of the Top 40 under 40 National Industry Up and Comers by Multi-Family Executive Magazine. He holds a BS from Emory University and an MBA from the University of Memphis.
