Marc A. Friend — Chief Financial Officer at PubNub

Mr. Marc A. Friend has been the Chief Financial Officer at PubNub, Inc. since February 15, 2016. Mr. Friend is a Venture Partner at Saints Capital. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Intalio, Inc. since January 2010 and also served as its Chief Operating Officer. He led finance, marketing, sales operations and administration for a growing team. He is a 15-year veteran of the venture industry. He is an active software investor and entrepreneur, having led venture investments from startup through initial public offerings acquisition in four major software categories: enterprise applications, security, platforms and infrastructure and business intelligence. Since 1994, Mr. Friend served as a General Partner at U.S. Venture Partners until 1998 and as a Venture Partner at Partech International. He served as a General Partner at Summit Partners LLP from May 2001 to April 2005. He served as a Product Manager at Microsoft Corporation. He served as Research Associate at CRV. Since 1988, he served as a Member of the Technical Staff at The Aerospace Corporation. Mr. Friend served General Partner at Maven Venture Partners. In 1988, he started his venture career as a Research Associate at Charles River Ventures and left it in 1993. He followed his and his firms' investment dollars into Channel Computing Inc., where he led product marketing, producing the first Windows-based Business Intelligence tools, Forest & Trees and InfoPump and served as a Director of Product Marketing. He served at the Windows Marketing team at Mirosoft as a Product Manager, where he developed and implemented communications strategies at the Windows 95 product launch. Mr. Friend was also a founding investor in Acta Technology, where he worked with the technical founders from conception to over 25 million in revenue prior to acquisition by Business Objects. He led USVP enterprise and Internet software investment activity, including Bigstep, Blue Martini, CenterView Software, Check Point Software, Everypath, NetDynamics, Sagent Technology and 3Dfx Interactive. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Acsis Incorporated. He serves as a Director of Acsis, Charles River Ventures and Vialto Corp. His board responsibilities included Blue Martini Software, Salesforce.com and GetThere, Inc. He served as a Director of Rapt Inc., ProClarity Corporation and Alopa Networks Inc. He served as Director of Everypath Inc. Mr. Friend served as a Director of Acta Technology Inc., Aqueduct Software Inc., Bigstep.Com and MediaQ Inc. He holds a BA and an MA in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
