Executive Bio

Ms. Hemmie Chang is a Partner at Ropes & Gray. Ms. Chang has over 15 years of experience supporting companies through their entire life cycle: raising angel and venture capital funding, going public or being sold. She has particular expertise in challenging and creative financing solutions, such as the first and largest of its kind financing in Massachusetts as part of energy deregulation. She serves on the boards of the South Cove Nursing Home, near Boston's Chinatown, of the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, and of the Commonwealth School. She has also advised the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, which was the first shelter in New England for Asian women and their families. She has taught seminars for the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education on disclosure issues for biotech companies and negotiating loan agreements and financial covenants. Active in firm matters, Hemmie co-authored Ropes & Gray's model forms on corporation materials and co-chairs the Business Advisory Discussion Group established to explore topics of interest to general corporate practitioners. She also is a member of her firm's associates evaluation, hiring and training advisory committees. Hemmie received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1984 where she was an articles editor of the Harvard Law Review and her A.B. from Princeton University in 1981, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. She served as law clerk to Judge David S. Nelson on the Federal District Court in Boston for 1984-85 prior to joining Ropes & Gray.
