Executive Bio

Michael J. Guilday serves as Partner of Private Investment Fund Group at Ropes & Gray LLP. Mr. Guilday's practice revolves around all aspects of global investment fund products and transactions, with a particular focus on institutional/private investment funds (including private equity funds, real estate funds and hedge funds), the operation and regulation of funds management businesses (including M&A, fund management joint ventures and spin-offs), and the taxation of funds and fund investors. He spent time practicing in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia, and possesses significant global transactional experience. He has lead a range of complex international corporate transactions, including investment fund structuring and establishments (either to U.S. or U.K. market standards), private and public capital raisings, and M&A transactions. He also has worked on many high profile deals, including the first CDO and real estate fund to be listed on the London Stock Exchange. Mr. Guilday comes to Ropes & Gray from Linklaters, where he was head of the Investment Management group. Mr. Guilday was cited in the 2009 edition of the Chambers Asia guide for his work in investment funds. He was also cited in the 2009 edition of Legal 500. The author of A Guide to International Financial Centers Investing in Hong Kong, he holds a Masters of Taxation Laws from Melbourne University in 2000. Mr. Guilday received his Bachelor of Laws from Monash University in 1994, which is also where he earned a BS in Mathematics in 1991.
