Mr. Hank Barry, Esq. serves as a Partner and co-leader of Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practice at Sidley Austin LLP. Mr. Barry serves as an Advisor of Muse Research & Development, Inc. He represents technology companies at all stages of development and in all industries, with a particular focus on intellectual property, commercial strategy and venture capital. For the last 20 years, he has worked with early stage companies as lawyer, investor and director, including seven companies in which he was involved from formation through IPO. He served as Chief Executive Officer at Napster Inc., Prior to its Acquisition by Roxio, Inc. He served as a Partner of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. Prior to joining Sidley, Mr. Barry was a Partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners V, L.P., where he led its interactive new media practice. At WSGR, Mr. Barry was principal outside counsel to several pioneering Internet companies, including Global Village Communications, Looksmart, Liquid Audio and NetDynamics. On behalf of Hummer Winblad, he served as Chief Executive Officer for Napster, Inc. from May 2000 to July 2001. In that capacity, Mr. Barry was responsible for Napster's operations, including its $100M agreement with BertelsmannAG. He twice appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of the company. In a profile focused on his work at Napster, USA Today called Mr. Barry 'The Digital Diplomat.' He has also represented several notable entertainment and consumer electronics companies, including A&M Records, Amazon.com, Disney Online and Apple Computer. In 1997, Mr. Barry was part of the three-member team that represented Apple in its breakthrough agreements with Microsoft. He is Board Emeritus at TheatreWorks Inc. He serves as a Director at Homes.com, Inc. He serves as a Director of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, PC. He serves as a Member of Technology Advisory Board at EDF Ventures. He serves on the Boards of several nonprofit organizations. He served as a Director at Napster Inc., Prior to its Acquisition by Roxio, Inc. He served as a Director of Sensoria Corporation and Buylink.com. He served as a Director of Napster Inc. from May 2000 to July 2001. He is a member of the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School. He holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1983 and B.A. in Economics from University of Michigan in 1980.
