Dr. Werner Meier has been Partner of London & Frankfurt Offices at Simmons & Simmons since July 2017. At Simmons, Dr. Meier leadsGerman restructuring practice and contribute to the further development of its Europe-wide financial markets practice. His finance experience covers a broad range of transactions, from syndicated loans to structured finance, high-yield bonds, factoring and other types of financings, both borrower-side and lender-side. He also spent over 22 years at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and served as Head of Finance and Restructuring Practice. He has a wealth of experience in finance and restructuring, with particular expertise advising on European debt and corporate restructurings, syndicated lending, high-yield bonds, securitisations and other structured finance transactions. Dr. Meier has been Head of Restructuring in Europe and Partner at King & Spalding LLP since April 2014. Dr. Meier's practice spans German and international restructuring, financing and capital markets transactions, with a focus on German debt and corporate restructurings, as well as syndicated loans, securitizations other structured finance and high yield transactions. Dr. Meier joined King & Spalding from Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP in Frankfurt, where he served as a Finance and Restructuring Partner. He served as a Partner at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP since January 2006. Dr. Meier's practice focused on German and international capital markets transactions, banking, finance and corporate law. He worked on numerous German derivatives, international syndicated loan, securitization and structured finance transactions. Dr. Meier joined Cleary, Gottlieb in 1992 and served as its Counsel since 2000. From 1995 to 1996, he served as the Resident in the New York office at Cleary, Gottlieb. Dr. Meier is a Member of the Bars in Frankfurt am Main and in New York. Dr. Meier has written a book and is widely published on German and U.S. capital markets and corporate law issues. He is distinguished as one of Germany's leading finance and restructuring lawyers by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, European Legal 500, Legal 500 Deutschland and JUVE. He is fluent in English, as well as proficient in French and Spanish. Dr. Meier received an LL.M. degree from Columbia University in 1991, a Doctorate in Law (Dr. jur.) and an MBA (Diplom-Kaufmann) from the Business School of the University of Bielefeld in 1990. He passed the first and the second state law examination in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1989.
