W. Merrette Moore — Managing Partner at Tidewater

Mr. W. Merrette Moore is a Managing Partner at Tidewater Equity Partners. He serves as a Co-Founder, Managing Partner, and Managing Director at Lookout Capital, LLC. Mr. Moore is also a Founder and Managing Partner at Lookout Consulting and oversees the operations with a particular focus on investment related activities. He served as a Vice President at NC IDEA, and he has developed many of the tools used by the firm in its due diligence process, including financial analysis models and investment memorandum formats. Mr. Moore is responsible for deal sourcing, business plan review, and leading and assisting investment due diligence efforts. He serves as Key Advisor of Rex Strategic Innovations. For the past 15 years, Mr. Moore has been involved in over 30 private investments, serving as the Lead Investment Representative for many deals. He was a Venture Partner at IDEA Fund Partners. Mr. Moore's background includes working closely with a variety of start-up and small companies. He joined MCNC in February 2002 to assist with the organizational and financial aspects of its reorganization and restructuring into two companies, as well as to help launch MCNC Ventures/NC IDEA. Mr. Moore has a wide-ranging background in finance, having held positions in commercial banking, investment banking, portfolio management, and private equity at various companies like Wachovia, Fairview Capital, Franklin Street Partners. He has venture capital investment experience working at Franklin Street Capital, where he conducted due diligence and financial analysis on information technology and life sciences companies. Mr. Moore also gained exposure to later stage private equity through an internship in business school at Fairview Capital, where he assisted with its investment process as well. He also has significant exposure to small businesses through his time at Wachovia as a Branch Manager and Business Banker. At the firm, he earned top honors as a loan producer every month that he was eligible and his branch finished second of over 200 branches in a statewide sales campaign. Mr. Moore also held positions in Public Company Research and Portfolio Management at Franklin Street Partners. He has investment banking experience, having evaluated, and structured client transactions at Lloyd & Company as an Associate. Mr. Moore has a wide range of more than 20 years experience in venture capital, commercial banking, investment banking, portfolio management, and private equity in organizations to source investment opportunities, review business plans, lead investment due diligence, and provide strategic advice to prospective and existing portfolio companies. Mr. Moore serves as a Board of Adviser at Rex Health Ventures. He serves as an NC IDEA Board representative to Broadwick and StrikeIron. Mr. Moore has been a Director of Visitar Inc. since June 2006. He serves as Director of iContact LLC. Mr. Moore also served as an Observer on Boards of several companies, including current such positions at Intervolve and StrikeIron. He also served on the Boards of Affinergy. He received M.B.A. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
