J. Matthew Royal — Chief Risk Officer at Unum Group

Mr. J. Matthew Royal has been Chief Risk Officer of Unum Group since July 2015. Mr. Royal served as Chief Auditor and Vice President of Unum Group since January 2013 until July 2015. Mr. Royal joined Unum from KPMG LLP, where he served as a Director in its Insurance Risk Advisory practice and had responsibility for assessing the effectiveness of internal audit functions and developing comprehensive risk assessments and risk-based internal audit plans. He served as global director for one of KPMG's largest insurance internal audit relationships. Prior to joining KPMG in 2003, Mr. Royal served as an Assistant Vice President of International Specialty Operations, with Marsh Inc. He holds a Bachelor's Degree In Business Administration from University of Georgia and a Master's in Business Administration from New York University.
