Mr. John F. McGarry, also known as Jack, has been the Chief Financial Officer of Unum Group since April 01, 2015 and has been its Executive Vice President sinceAugust 2013 and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer of Closed Block operations since August 2013 until April 2015. Mr. McGarry served as Executive Vice President of Individual Disability & Long Term Care Closed Block Operations at Unum Group since September 2012. Mr. McGarry served as Chief Executive Officer of Unum Limited until September 17, 2012. Mr. McGarry served as Executive Vice President of Unum Group since July 2010. Mr. McGarry served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Unum UK at Unum Group since July 2010. Mr. McGarry served as Senior Vice President of Benefits Operations of Unum Group (formerly, UnumProvident Corp.) until July 2010. Mr. McGarry is a 20 year veteran of UnumProvident. He joined the benefits operations in January 2006 overseeing the Portland, Chattanooga, Worcester and Glendale operations. Prior to that, Mr. McGarry served as senior vice president of underwriting operations in which he oversaw the underwriting of UnumProvident's U.S. group, multi-life individual and voluntary workplace benefits lines. Mr. McGarry joined Unum in 1986 in the individual life division. He held various financial roles including chief finance officer for life and health and subsequently life, health and retirement products division. He served as vice president of underwriting and risk management for Unum's long term disability division since 1992. He also headed Unum's long term disability product center. Over the past 10 years, Mr. McGarry has held various leadership positions in the underwriting department. Mr. McGarry serves as Executive Director of Unum Limited. He serves as a Trustee at Maine Medical Center and serves as a Director at United Way of York County. Mr. McGarry is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Vermont in 1980.
