Ian F. Smith CPA, ACA — COO & Executive VP at Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Mr. Ian F. Smith, CPA, ACA, has been Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated since February 2006 and January 1, 2017 respectively. Mr. Smith serves as a Member of the Executive Team of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated and holds responsibility for a wide variety of core functions, including Finance, Strategic Communications, Information Systems, Operations and Human Resources. He served as the Chief Financial Officer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated since October 2001 until September 13, 2017. He served as a Senior Vice President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated from November 2003 to February 2006 and as its Vice President from October 2001 to November 2003. Mr. Smith served as a partner in the Life Science and Technology Practice Group of Ernst & Young LLP. He has been a Director of Acorda Therapeutics, Inc. since February 2007, Tolerx, Inc. since April 5, 2004, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since May 2008 and EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since August 16, 2006. He serves as a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and the Financial Executives Institute. He served as a Director of Predix Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. since May 2005 and Predix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since June 2, 2005. He served as a Director at Ophthotech Corporation from August 2, 2016 to May 19, 2017.
