Q&A With BJ's Restaurants Employees
BJ’s culture has three distinct but complementary pillars: We are an "of service" culture, anchored by solid hospitality and guided by our compass of quality, and coupled with our strong humanistic values of integrity, connection, compassion and care for our guests and for our fellow team members. We are a highly disciplined culture that seeks perfection in terms of consistently delivering a superior dining experience at a solid value for our guests, flawlessly executing every detail in a highly productive and efficient manner on every shift. We are a high performance culture, dedicated to high performance and productivity in all areas of our operations. We will set "reasonable stretch" goals, and focus on delivering results, not reasons. How challenged are you at BJ's Restaurants?
BJ's is interesting because they get all sorts of guests. But that makes it challenging because every problem is different.
What are the team outings like at BJ's Restaurants?
When I went through orientation they said there were team outings, but the BJ's in Oklahoma never had one.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining BJ's Restaurants?
I wish I would have known that the manager lied to get positions filled. I would never have taken the job if I knew that I was never going to get promoted.
How's the morale at BJ's Restaurants?
Low. You can tell who the new people are because they are the most excited and eager to work. But the people in charge expect too much, and after a month or two, that eagerness disappears.
How much diversity is there among employees at BJ's Restaurants?
There is a lot of diversity.
What's the office layout like at BJ's Restaurants?
It's a very big restaurant.
What unique perks and benefits does BJ's Restaurants provide?
Discounted/free food depending on what position you are hired.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at BJ's Restaurants?
Laidback, disorganized, and a complete lie. There was so much time waiting. And the manager told me that I would be able to be a server in 2-3 months. I was there for 7 months and was never promoted. I've asked about it to other hosts and service assistants and they were promised the same thing, they were also never promoted.
How long do the interviews usually take at BJ's Restaurants?
My interview seemed really disorganized. The manager talked to me for maybe 10 minutes before hiring me, but from walking in until leaving I was there for about 40 minutes.
How do I do well in an interview at BJ's Restaurants?
Be yourself and be willing to work in positions other than the one you applied for. If I wouldn't have accepted being a host, I wouldn't have been given a job there.
What questions do they ask during the interview process at BJ's Restaurants?
I was asked why I want to work there and about my past jobs and job responsibilities.
How would you compare interviewing at BJ's Restaurants to other places you've interviewed?
It was very laid back. Other places I get interviewed always seem to question why I'm there with my work history. But my interview didn't feel like that at all.
What should I wear for an interview at BJ's Restaurants?
At BJ's employees wear all black. I would suggest wearing the same so the interviewer can see you working for the company.
What was the most difficult question that was asked during your interview at BJ's Restaurants?
My interview didn't have any difficult questions.
