
I generally have a lot of control over my day to day activities. This has allowed me to develop and build numerous projects. I also enjoy the periodic puzzle aspect of my job...until I don't.
The leadership team communicates clearly and directly with all of the employees. This leads to a better understanding of the company's goals, of what is happening at our facility and promotes the idea that we are valued teammates rather than cogs in a machine.
While we are all pretty different and come from radically different backgrounds we readily come together to work towards common goals. The diversity of individual skillsets and interests allows us to accomplish far more than I've seen in other shops.
Many company's engage in performative safety. Nucor believes in safety and works hard to foster a positive culture, in that respect. While making steel as efficiently as possible is important, having all teammates go home to their families is more important. Nucor walk's the walk.
I could make more if I returned to construction in my location...but it would be feast or famine. The stability coupled with good pay, though is invaluable. While the medical insurance is so-so in certain respects the low annual out of pocket and no lifetime cap make it very valuable.
