When you stop wanting to come in. When you realize your boss is unethical or has a personality disorder (lies, manipulates, has temper tantrums, etc) When you suspect the company is headed in a bad direction If your company is poorly managed If employee morale is low When you're ready to move on to bigger and better things

When it's no longer supporting you or your family/paying the bills. When it becomes too stressful for your health, and there's no end in sight. When you get a better offer at another place or company that would be nonsense not to take. When there is a situation that's detrimental to your health or marriage or the like, and it can not be resolved any other way. Things like that.

I don't know if there every is a set time. It really depends on where you are in life, but I think if you are in a role or company for some time that five years is a good time to reevaluate.
