Ask honestly. You can even get surprised, some employeers encourage healthy balance
Don't use the word Work/Life Balance. Ask questions about the culture. You can tell that they're nuts if they talk about dedication commitment, alignment. If they use the words 'work hard play hard' then run.
Just ask it, everyone is honest and transparent here.
Wait for them to bring it up.
What are the expectations as far as time requirements to be present at the workplace ?
Tell me about your culture? Are working hours flexible?
Should be open in asking about work week hours to plan other family commitments. Also helps in setting expectations upfront with Hiring Manager.
I would ask them to run through a typical day and ask about how the company handles extended hours during a busy time frame or how they handle slow time frames. Their answers will tell you what kind of hours are expected.
Explain that family and personal time are key to your productivity.
