There aren't any real differences in policy between maternity and paternity leave, though the way that people take advantage tends to differ in practice. Both allow you to take up to 6 weeks of leave within the first 6 months after the event. Moms appear tend to take their time early in the time frame for their recovery, while dads may take some portion early to spend time with the new one and assist mom and then save some days for the many doctor visits that happen in the first 6 months. I'm not sure if there is much difference in practice for adoptions, though the time is available there as well.
