  • The interviews are very different for each of the groups within Excella, so it's tough to give a general answer to the question. In general, there will be some initial skills tests to ensure that the applicant has a base level of knowledge. If the applicant makes it in for an actual interview, it may be with a single person or a team, and may take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. This second level looks for technical and general skills. The final level involves meeting with one or more partners to follow up on questions from the second level and ensure a cultural fit.

  • There aren't any real differences in policy between maternity and paternity leave, though the way that people take advantage tends to differ in practice. Both allow you to take up to 6 weeks of leave within the first 6 months after the event. Moms appear tend to take their time early in the time frame for their recovery, while dads may take some portion early to spend time with the new one and assist mom and then save some days for the many doctor visits that happen in the first 6 months. I'm not sure if there is much difference in practice for adoptions, though the time is available there as well.

As you progress and are expected to have much deeper experience or behave as a team lead, then it gets harder to change over. (Though a motivated individual could always build up the required skills, develop and execute a plan to make the change successfully.)

This is not surprising as this section is considerably smaller than the Business Analysts or Software Developers, while reflecting the overall market's strong demand for Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Visualization. However, the firm's overall approach is to match employees with their experience and interest, making it unusual to transfer between different units except for the less experienced consultants.
