My team has taken several week long "retreat" trips to stay at a house in Mesa, Arizona, close to our satellite office. We focus on getting new team members up to date on our team problem domain and technologies, on tackling some "hack" projects that can be done in a week, and on increasing team cohesion through fun events. We also have monthly developer lunches where four developers, usually from different teams, get lunch together and can informally share ideas and get to know each other. The company has regular all-employee events (Christmas party, summer picnic, etc.) where you have a chance to interact with employees and their family members in a more personal way. Finally, the software development internship program has weekly events for interns and mentors that include board game nights, go karts, Seattle Sounders game, museum trips, and more.
Few and sporadic, but the outings we do have are generally very pleasant and easy going. The company tends to pay for work-related outings and doesn't seem to cheap out.
Don't have many company outings, but when we do they are nice. Small team outings are all up to the teams to organize on their own.
Nice and laid back, the company is really good about picking up the check.
Each department varies. Development often orders in takeout for the team.
Great--though we could use more of them.
Generally pretty fun.
Fun!
