In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th-October 15th), we asked businesses to share with us how they actively support their Hispanic/Latinx employees as well as Hispanic/Latinx communities.
Capital One is committed to advancing racial equity, justice, and inclusion for our Hispanic and Latinx associates and communities. We strive to lead by example, be a champion for equal protections, and create positive outcomes. We embrace the idea that our success wouldn’t be possible without a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone can bring their true selves to work. Members of our Hispanic / Latinx Business Resource Group (BRG), HOLA, help to increase the visibility and support the development of Hispanics at Capital One. HOLA’s mission is to empower Hispanic/Latinx associates and allies to thrive both in and out of Capital One. Leaders from our Hispanic/Latinx (BRG), HOLA, provide insight into their experience and identify opportunities to enact positive change for our people, our culture, and our communities. HOLA also leads the Hispanic Leadership Development Program (HLDP) and Hispanic Leaders Coaching Program (HLCP), which support associates to achieve their full career potential through leadership training, executive speakers, networking events, and mentoring opportunities. Since 2016, 140 associates have graduated from these programs, many of whom have been promoted and have taken on new roles across Capital One. Additionally, our Hispanics in Tech (HIT) BRG works to elevate the focus on and support of Hispanic associates working in technology.

As part of the Capital One Impact Initiative, we’ve awarded a $500k social justice grant to UnidosUS, a non-profit organization committed to civil rights and social justice. We’re proud to support their work to recognize the contributions of the Latino community and the systemic barriers they face. We are a proud supporter of diversity and equity initiatives, including partnerships with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, where we work to increase Hispanic representation in Congress. We’re committed to building an inclusive culture and environment—an environment where all employees of any culture or heritage feel they belong and everyone is accepted, everywhere. At Quickbase, we aspire to be the most inclusive company in software. Part of that vision is creating spaces for diverse communities within Quickbase to come together, foster a sense of belonging, and inspire conversations through our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). We are kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month by launching our newest ERG, The Hispanic Origin Latin American Network, or the HOLA Network. While the HOLA Network has planned a number of exciting events for Hispanic Heritage Month, the group is looking forward to creating professional development opportunities for Hispanic/Latinx employees and supporting recruitment and retention initiatives to bring more diverse talent to Quickbase.
What does your company do to support Hispanic/Latinx communities?
Our vision of becoming the most inclusive company in software starts with our employees, ensuring that we are attracting and developing top diverse talent, but also extends to our community. Giving back to the community is a significant thread within the fabric of our company and is tied directly to our diversity and inclusion objectives. Through our Quickbase Bridges program, we are providing free access to the Quickbase platform, training, and support to minority-owned/run small businesses and nonprofit organizations focused on servicing traditionally under-resourced communities. We know that Hispanic and Latinx communities have historically been under-represented in tech spaces and we are actively working to close the digital divide by partnering to upskill people, organizations, and communities through Quickbase.

At GE Power, we are committed to building a world that works, no easy feat. With Engineering so core to GE, we have also recognized the need to pave the way for others, particularly in diverse populations who are woefully underrepresented in the field. In the U.S., Black and Hispanic people represent less than 13 percent of the current engineering workforce. With both the need and our ability to contribute to the future in mind, earlier this year, we announced the GE Foundation’s commitment of up to $100 million to create the Next Engineers program—a global college-readiness initiative specifically focused on increasing the diversity of young people in engineering. Over the next decade, the goal of Next Engineers is to reach more than 85,000 students in approximately 25 cities globally to develop the next generation of engineers and innovators. The program will focus on students underrepresented in engineering in grades eight to 12 (ages 13 to 18), providing hands-on exposure to engineering concepts and careers, and ultimately awarding scholarships to pursue engineering degrees.

What does your company do to support Hispanic/Latinx communities?
Here at Fiserv, we choose to stand for diversity and inclusion. As a globally connected team of more than 40,000 people, we know that the workplace extends to the communities surrounding it, and we believe in promoting inclusion beyond our walls – a commitment that starts at the top. We celebrate originality and value diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities, and we believe our actions speak louder than words. That’s why we support Hispanic and Latinx communities as part of our Forward Together action plan, which outlines four commitments we have made to our associates and communities:
• Improve diversity across all levels of our organization, including senior leadership.
• Invest $50 million to support Black- and minority-owned small businesses through Back2Business grants.
• Increase associate awareness, education, and participation in diversity and inclusion programs.
• Support community groups with missions focused on human rights, racial equity, and social justice.
As we continue to grow, we recognize the importance of building a pipeline of diverse talent. To maximize such recruitment efforts, we partner with organizations that focus and empower Hispanic and Latinx talent. These organizations include the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Prospanica – National Society of Hispanic MBAs and Professionals, and the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement. We stand in support of our Hispanic and Latinx communities – especially when it comes to small businesses. Small businesses are the key to economic recovery, but many have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The effects are even more acute for minority-owned small businesses, so we’ve been partnering with community organizations across the U.S. to provide financial assistance, expertise, and technology at a time when small businesses need us most. See how we’re helping small businesses get Back2Business and how you can apply for a Back2Business grant for a Hispanic or Latinx business in your community on Fiserv.com. Every year during National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th-October 15th), Fiserv celebrates the History, Accomplishments, Originality, Culture, and Cuisine of Hispanic and Latin Americans to help create a richer and stronger company, community, and country! During the month, Juntos participates in a wide variety of festivities including a town hall celebration, a guest speaker series, and a virtual marketplace for Hispanic/Latinx business owners featuring Back2Business grant recipients and Clover clients. In 2020, Juntos proudly presented a cookbook, Cooking Together: A Celebration of Hispanic and Latino Culture and Cuisine – a collection of traditions and recipes from Fiserv associates representing 12 countries. We believe that by acknowledging, sharing, and participating in the traditions, cultures, and tasty cuisines our Hispanic and Latinx associates uphold, we build a more diverse, rich, and stronger community at Fiserv. We believe it is important to be actively involved in the Hispanic and Latinx communities where our associates live and work. We are proud partners of Northwest Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, and the GA Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
