The 6th annual list of the Best Companies for Compensation – part of Comparably’s annual Best Places to Work series – are determined based on sentiment feedback provided by employees on Comparably.com over the past year (Sept. 2021-Sept. 2022). Workers were asked a variety of questions related to their overall compensation package. Methodology is outlined below the lists.
“Being paid fairly has always been an important factor, but in order to recruit and retain top talent today companies need to provide competitive compensation across the board,” said Comparably co-founder/CEO Jason Nazar. “The top-rated companies on this year’s list have raised the bar by expanding salary bands, perks, and benefits to meet new expectations from workers.”
This distinction is segmented into two lists: Top 100 Large companies (more than 500 employees) and Top 100 Small/Mid-Size companies (500 employees or fewer). Links to the full lists will go live when the embargo is lifted:

Methodology
- The 6th annual list of Best Companies for Compensation – part of Comparably’s annual Best Places to Work series – is derived from sentiment ratings provided by employees who anonymously rated their employers on Comparably.com during a 12-month period (Sept. 14, 2021-Sept. 14, 2022).
- Rankings were determined based on a series of questions related to compensation (in yes/no, true/false, 1-10 scale, and multiple-choice format). The answer to each question was given a numerical score and then compared to companies of similar size. Sample questions include:
- Do you believe you’re paid fairly?
- How often do you get a raise?
- Are you satisfied with your benefits?
- Does your company give annual bonuses?
- If applicable, are you satisfied with your stock or equity?
- To qualify, Large companies (more than 500 employees) must have met a minimum of 75 employee participants and Small/Mid-Size companies (fewer than 500 employees) needed a minimum of 25 employee participants. For fairness and statistical significance, additional weight was given to companies with more ratings from their employee base relative to company size.
- There were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination or an application process required. The final rankings were determined from 15 million ratings across 70,000 companies in the U.S. and Canada.
