Do You Feel Like Your Boss Actually Cares? A Surprising Number of People Say Yes.

It may seem like everyone has something to say about their terrible, horrible, no good, very bad boss, but nearly three-quarters of tech workers actually feel their bosses care about them as people, according to data compiled by Comparably. The results are from an ongoing query of more than 10,000 workers across the technology industry.

Admin and legal aren’t feeling the love

Workers in some departments aren’t feeling the love as much as others. Just 63% of workers in administrative and legal roles at tech companies say their bosses seem to care about them as people.

Workers in HR and engineering were most likely to say their bosses care about them as people — at 78% and 77%, respectively.

By gender

Overall, 71% of women and 74% of men said they felt their bosses cared about them as people. Men in HR felt that way most (81%) as did women in product and engineering (79% and 78%, respectively). Men in admin and women in sales displayed the least enthusiasm for that statement, at 60% and 61%, respectively.

By ethnicity

African Americans were least likely to say their bosses care about them as people (67%). Whites and Hispanics/Latinos showed the highest rates of thinking their boss seems to care about them as people (75% and 72% respectively).
