“Recently our team has been working on very interesting projects which combine engineering evolution and goal tracking. My team manages processes and services for all payment transactions to Gympass partners. We’re exploring microservices patterns like Transactional Outbox to guarantee events integrity and avoid their loss. Simultaneously, we are breaking down our application into smaller services, adhering to Domain-Driven Design principles and Clean Architecture to guarantee maintenance, quality, and effective communication between our team and the domain experts. Our services are built with Kotlin, and even though most of them are using SpringBoot, we are considering moving to other options like Quarkus or Micronaut, so we can make the most of our Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure! And of course, all of that is frequently debated among the whole team in the form of fun brainstorming meetings, pair reviews, and pair programming!”
– Vinicius Abreu, Tech Manager from the Partners Payout squad

IGNITE, our early development rotational program for young engineers, was established to accelerate the development of early career technical talent through defined but diverse experiences. The experiences are designed to build a talent pipeline for future leaders with a broad perspective and a strong foundational understanding of Flowserve operations. The participants rotate through a variety of operational roles with access to engaged leaders and mentors while following a robust curriculum. Through this program, the participants learn the importance of diverse experiences, how to work with an enterprise mindset across teams and sites, the importance of building a strong network and how mobility can support career growth opportunities. The participants drive our Innovation and Excellence values through Action Learning Projects (ALPs) to create new solutions and continuous improvement opportunities for operational challenges. ALPs require that participants take ownership to drive results and achieve committed outcomes, but also dive into lessons learned to explore the outcomes. The program also includes opportunities for service within the participants’ communities through Flowserve Cares.

Right now, there are multiple technically interesting challenges that are likely to have a large impact on Maestro’s success, and that’s a problem engineers love to have. We are simultaneously (a) going deep on AI discovery and how we can leverage the cutting edge innovations, (b) releasing a new product that we can’t move fast enough on in its zero to one phase, and (c) trying to tackle various scale concerns through platform enhancements, because we’re adding more and bigger customers as we innovate! Fortunately, this means engineers also have a lot of input into what they work on, because there are multiple opportunities to deliver a lot of value.
What unique professional development/advancement opportunities does your company offer to engineers?
Rapidly growing software companies are generally a great place for opportunity and advancement, but where Maestro really excels is in giving engineers a large breadth of experiences. In the past week, I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of deep technical discovery, prototyping, feature iteration, and scaling – as have many others! There’s also a lot of opportunity to wear multiple hats and operate outside your role to make an impact. Maestro is like being at an early stage startup going from 0 to 1 while also racing toward IPO.
