Companies that Give Back to Society

Certainly, when the first large companies began, there was little thought that any business might actively work to give back to society in general. But we’ve come to expect more from our corporate entities over the last 25 years, and many have responded by kicking off internal programs dedicated to just that – giving back. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, let’s give some thanks to these organizations for paying it back.

AppFolio is always looking for opportunities to make an impactful contribution to the causes and communities that are meaningful to AppFolians and our customers through our AppFolio Gives Back program.

There is currently a shortage of more than seven million affordable homes across the United States. Decent, affordable shelter creates a long-lasting and life-changing impact on families and communities, which is at the heart of Habitat for Humanity’s mission – AppFolio’s 2022-23 Give Back Partner. Last year, Habitat for Humanity helped 4.2 million people build or improve the place they call home!

What are some of the ways your company gives back?

Like Habitat for Humanity, AppFolio believes affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Through employee fundraisers (from ping-pong and cornhole competitions to trivia, bake sales, and even pie-in-the-face), group service activities near our Dallas, San Diego, and Santa Barbara office hubs, and a corporate match from AppFolio, AppFolians have come together to share their time, talent, and resources to raise awareness of Habitat for Humanity’s mission and maximize our impact. We even invited AppFolio customers to join the cause through a playhouse build activity at our 10th annual Customer Conference, with the finished products being donated to Ventura County military and veteran families.

As the educational landscape continues to evolve, teachers and leaders are finding themselves in need of strategies and resources to engage students further and promote elevated literacy. As a part of the Cambium family, we believe in helping students and teachers feel seen, valued and supported. Fulfilling this purpose means ensuring that impactful learning continues regardless of one’s learning location. It is of the utmost importance to us at Learning A-Z that we provide teachers with the tools they need to help their students thrive while equipping them with social-emotional skills to acclimate to the modern classroom environment.

What are some of the ways your company gives back?

We encourage students to give back to their communities around the world. Programs such as The Donation Challenge with Learning A-Z and UNICEF USA, which enables students to donate clean drinking water and healthy food through their own literacy journey, provides teachers with a mechanism to further develop reading skills while connecting students with real-life applications of the social-emotional skills they’ve learned. We take pride in offering programs such as this, as they empower students to give back, all while allowing them to engage further with literacy instruction and form the foundation for further education. This challenge makes an immense impact on participating students. Students who participate read three times as many books and complete four times as many activities – and the results don’t stop there. Since inception, students have donated 458K meals and nearly 3 million days of clean water to those in need around the world, allowing students to truly be a beacon for change. The work we do with UNICEF is just one of the ways Learning A-Z gives back to our community.
