In today’s evolving workplace, organizations are reimagining what team building means beyond traditional happy hours and annual retreats. As companies navigate hybrid work models and global teams, they’re discovering that meaningful collaboration requires intentional design—from the physical spaces where people gather to the digital platforms that keep conversations flowing across time zones. The most forward-thinking organizations are weaving connection into the fabric of daily work itself, recognizing that innovation thrives when employees feel genuinely supported, celebrated, and united by shared purpose. From AI-powered learning movements to wellness challenges that double as team bonding, these companies are proving that the future of work isn’t just about productivity—it’s about creating cultures where people can grow, contribute, and belong, no matter where they’re located.
What innovative approaches does your company take to foster collaboration across departments and locations?
As a global leader in authoritative Legal AI Workflows, LexisNexis® Legal & Professional is transforming how people and technology work together to advance the rule of law. That innovation starts with our people. Through Growth @ GenAI, our global learning movement centered on generative AI, employees across every function explore how AI innovation can simplify work, spark creativity, and strengthen collaboration. The program connects colleagues from every corner of the world to share real use cases, exchange ideas, and imagine new ways to deliver impact. Supported by a network of Internal GenAI Champions and guided by our Innovation Office, employees learn from one another, experiment boldly, and bring their ideas to life. Platforms such as Viva Engage keep those conversations flowing across time zones and teams, showing that our global reach isn’t a challenge; it’s what fuels our shared innovation.
How do you create opportunities for meaningful connection and relationship-building among team members?
Connection is at the heart of how we grow and thrive together. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) unite colleagues around shared passions, experiences, and goals, creating an environment where inclusion, wellbeing, and belonging flourish. Every employee has up to two paid days each year to join ERG-led programs that encourage mentoring, learning, and personal growth. Through LexisNexis Cares, employees receive two additional paid volunteer days to strengthen communities and expand access to justice, and in the United States, colleagues receive two extra Pro Bono Cares days to support the rule of law through legal service.
Our culture of caring also inspires everyday connection. Colleagues check in with one another, share experiences through global wellbeing campaigns, and join free webinars and expert-led sessions on mental health, mindfulness, and personal development. Through our global Spotlight recognition program, peers and leaders celebrate creativity, collaboration, and impact, turning appreciation into inspiration. Alongside our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), flexible work options, and family and dependent care resources, these initiatives help employees stay connected, supported, and inspired in every part of life.
These moments of connection and community across ERGs, Cares activities, recognition, and day-to-day experiences create a culture alive with possibilities—where careers grow naturally through shared learning, global collaboration, and purpose-driven work. It is innovation with heart, powered by people, technology, and trusted intelligence. It’s this blend of cutting-edge technology and human connection that defines who we are at LexisNexis: a home for innovators, visionaries, and changemakers shaping a more just world.

What innovative approaches does your company take to foster collaboration across departments and locations?
Collaboration is built into the way we work across teams, departments, and locations. One of the ways we foster this connection is through our monthly KPI challenges, which encourage cross-departmental participation and creativity. Teams not only collaborate to meet goals but also contribute to shared goals, including submitting homemade videos that may be featured in our advertisements. This gives employees across the company a chance to impact our brand storytelling directly. Beyond performance initiatives, we keep our culture thriving through a variety of Slack channels that help employees connect on a personal level, whether it’s sharing pet photos, celebrating personal wins, introducing themselves, or discussing the latest company book club pick. We also ensure collaboration and transparency go hand in hand. Each department’s team intranet is accessible through our broader company intranet, allowing anyone at Golden Hippo to see what other teams are working on, learn from shared resources, and stay aligned with our company values of transparency and collaboration.
How do you create opportunities for meaningful connection and relationship-building among team members?
We believe meaningful connections are the foundation of a strong, collaborative culture. Our Hippo Buddy Program helps new hires feel welcomed from day one by pairing them with a teammate who can offer guidance, answer questions, and help them navigate both the company and our culture. Our open floor plan at HQ encourages organic interaction and spontaneous collaboration, making it easy for team members from different departments to connect, share ideas, and build relationships throughout the workday. We also create intentional opportunities for growth and connection through our mentorship program, which pairs employees looking to learn and develop with experienced mentors across departments. This program fosters personal and professional development while strengthening bonds between team members at all levels of the organization. Beyond day-to-day work, we bring employees together through a mix of in-person and virtual events; from celebrations and wellness activities to learning sessions that engage our entire team, no matter where they’re located. And through Hippo Reads, our company book club, employees can connect over shared ideas and discussions that inspire both personal and professional growth.

At Esri, collaboration isn’t just encouraged – it’s part of our DNA. We operate as a “team of teams” where cross-functional partnerships are essential to delivering meaningful solutions to our users. Teammates from across departments regularly come together, united by a shared passion for our mission. This all-hands-on-deck mentality means that the management style is flat, which encourages leaders to better support team members. Our offices are intentionally designed with modern, open collaboration spaces to promote creativity and connection. Across the world, teams can work together and connect through internal communication chats, virtual and in-person team celebrations, and more. Here, we have a genuine enthusiasm to support one another, solve problems collectively, and push boundaries to support our users.

The Esri Experience is what happens when Esri employees build genuine bonds and share experiences along their Esri journey. Yearly events such as the holiday breakfast, company barbeques, pumpkin carving contests, and community outreach events encourage social interactions outside of normal work responsibilities. New hires connect with one another through our onboarding app, with many gathering for an exclusive welcome event at our headquarters in sunny southern California. Birthday celebrations, holidays, Esri Anniversaries (warmly referred to as “Esriversaries”), and other milestones are often celebrated together as teams. We also have over 100 community groups on our internal channels where employees can bond over similar interests, hobbies, or identities; there’s a place for everyone to find community. Building your network at Esri is not only a great way to build trust and connection, but it also allows us to do our best work. Positive relationships and the free flow of knowledge keep us united and aligned in our mission.
